Job summary

The State of North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking an Engineer II in the Division of Energy, Mineral and Land Resources (DEMLR) to lead reviews and provide technical guidance on post-construction stormwater projects.

You will evaluate plans for compliance, perform inspections, and collaborate with environmental specialists and stakeholders, including permitting staff and the public.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 3 years of progressively responsible experience; PE may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely and detailed review of permit applications, engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations within the procedural and statutory times for compliance with Federal and State laws, rules, and policies, and good engineering practices.
  • Prepares a variety of technical documents to communicate the results of the review with all necessary parties.
  • Performs inspections of sites/facilities regulated under each of DEMLR's four programs: Stormwater, Sedimentation Control, Dam Safety, and Mining.
  • Advises and provides engineering guidance and written technical/compliance documentation to other staff, clients, and the general public.
  • Meets with applicants and their consultants to facilitate project development, design, construction, and ultimately permit approval and site compliance.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
