Job summary

The State of North Carolina’s Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineer III (NS) to lead hydrologic and hydraulic design for stormwater across multi-modal projects. This role drives SCM planning, design, and compliance while coordinating with internal teams and consultants.

You will conduct advanced H&H analyses, manage SCM implementations, and support policy updates. A Bachelor’s degree in engineering and four years of experience are required; PE license may be needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience or equivalent.
• Special qualification: may require PE license in NC.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and support hydrologic and hydraulic studies for roadway drainage, bridges, culverts, SCMs, and floodplain compliance.
• Conduct advanced H&H modeling and analyses to support project delivery and resilience.
• Identify and deliver stormwater retrofit opportunities across DOT facilities with SCM implementation and permitting.
• Manage stormwater compliance programs, including credit tracking in SCMS and updates to policy and tools.
• Support emergency storm response and recovery efforts with rapid design and permitting.
• Provide technical training and guidance to staff, consultants, and partner agencies; support applied research in H&H and stormwater.
