Job summary

Columbia College seeks a Professional Tutor to deliver individualized and small-group tutoring in STEM disciplines and writing. The tutor will help students strengthen subject knowledge, develop effective academic strategies, and build confidence as independent learners.

Working with Learning Commons staff, this role supports students across disciplines, promotes inclusive learning, and maintains confidentiality per FERPA policies.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency in at least one designated tutoring area: STEM or writing.
• Ability to help students with study strategies and time management.
• Professionalism and reliability in an academic setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and small-group tutoring in STEM and writing.
• Assess student needs and adapt tutoring approaches.
• Explain complex concepts clearly to support independent learning.
• Support students with writing processes including brainstorming and editing.
• Maintain tutoring records and communicate with staff about appointments.
