Columbia College’s Stafford Learning Commons seeks a Professional Tutor to support students in STEM and/or writing. This role provides individualized and small-group tutoring, helping learners strengthen knowledge, study strategies, and confidence in an inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent in STEM, English, writing, or education.
  • Proficient in tutoring STEM or writing disciplines.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt to student needs.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and commitment to student success.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an academic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group tutoring in STEM or writing.
  • Assess student needs and adapt tutoring to learning styles and goals.
  • Explain concepts clearly while fostering critical thinking and independence.
  • Help students develop study habits, time management, and confidence.
  • Support exam preparation and application of academic concepts.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA and institutional policies.
  • Collaborate with faculty and Learning Commons staff to identify needs.
