Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) is seeking a State Parks Planner to develop master plans, general management plans and concept plans for state parks, guiding facilities, visitor use and resource preservation. The role involves coordinating with internal programs and external stakeholders.

The position is eligible for hybrid telework, with a typical Monday–Friday schedule in Raleigh, NC.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with community planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering or natural resource-based planning.
Experience in environmental protection, natural resource management, recreation land use or public park management.
Experience using GIS and/or AutoCAD.
Ability to develop graphic presentation materials and planning concepts.

Responsibilities

Prepare and update general management plans.
Prepare and update master plans, conceptual plans and site plans for units.
Coordinate contracted planning services for new and existing units.
Coordinate with programs and external stakeholders on park plans.
Conduct long-range planning for the State Parks System, including Systemwide Plan.
Develop master plans, general management plans and concept plans; graphically convey ideas and decisions.
Supervise temporary and permanent staff, volunteers, interns and consultants.
Assist in preparing other planning projects as needed.
