Job summary

BD is seeking a Staff Engineer, New Product Development in Franklin Lakes, NJ, to lead next-generation TPE formulations and material platforms for medical devices. This hybrid role combines hands-on research with cross-functional collaboration across R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Operations.

You will translate customer and manufacturing needs into robust designs, mentor teammates, and establish data-driven design rules through rigorous experimentation, modeling, and characterization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or related.
• Significant experience in polymer research, formulation development, material characterization, or product-focused materials science.
• Proven experience designing experiments, analyzing complex datasets, and developing structure-property–performance relationships.
• Strong scientific writing, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead technically challenging research programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of next-generation TPE formulations and structural systems for medical-device applications.
• Design and execute research strategies that deepen understanding of polymer composition, morphology, processing, sterilization, and aging on device performance.
• Use structured experimentation and advanced characterization to link material structure to product function and enable predictive development.
• Build robust methodologies, create predictive models, and translate data into clear design rules and engineering decisions.
• Translate customer, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory requirements into material design inputs and verification strategies.
• Guide material selection, risk retirement, regulatory submissions, and future platform strategy.
• Foster collaboration with suppliers, universities, external labs, and internal experts.
• Communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and mentor others to align data-driven decisions.
