Job summary

The Haskell Company is seeking a Senior Substation SCADA & Communication Engineer to lead design, implementation, and integration of advanced SCADA and communication systems for substations and grid interconnection points.

You will act as technical lead on projects for utilities and renewable energy clients nationwide, with deep experience in RTU/PLC configuration, industrial protocols, and cyber security. PE preferred; GA/US familiarity advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (ABET-accredited).
• 8+ years of experience in power system automation, SCADA integration, and substation communication system design.
• Proven expertise in RTU/PLC/HMI configuration; SCADA protocols: DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850/GOOSE; communications media: fiber, microwave, Ethernet.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of substation SCADA systems, including RTUs, HMIs, PLCs, data concentrators, I/O devices, and communication processors.
• Develop network architectures and communication topologies for transmission substations, renewable plants, and control centers.
• Engineer communication systems with Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, Ethernet/IP, and other standard protocols.
• Generate complete SCADA design packages: block diagrams, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, BOM, settings files, network diagrams.
• Configure and validate RTUs/IEDs/HMIs, and automation controllers.
• Perform system testing and field commissioning, end-to-end SCADA verification and live troubleshooting.
• Interface with utilities, ISO/RTOs, and interconnection stakeholders during grid testing and energization.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on multi-disciplinary teams.
• Drive innovation through enhancements in tools, processes, and emerging technologies (AI diagnostics, digital twins).
• Ensure SCADA and communication systems meet LGIA, NERC CIP, and interconnection requirements.
