Job summary

HK Tech in Salt Lake City is seeking a senior platform engineer to build an AWS-based landing zone and Kubernetes platform for a HIPAA-regulated public-health data system. This contractor role spans from the first line of code to production, with a 40-hour week and hybrid travel to Salt Lake City.

You will own the cloud environment, design secure networks, run EKS, manage GitOps pipelines, and prepare runbooks for on-call support.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in infrastructure or platform engineering with production Kubernetes on AWS.
• Experience operating a regulated workload (HIPAA, FedRAMP, PCI) and explain regulation changes.
• Deep Terraform or OpenTofu; multi-account AWS orgs and policy-as-code.

Responsibilities

• Build AWS Organization and multi-account environment as code.
• Design private VPCs, network security and connectivity patterns.
• Run EKS, manage Bottlerocket, Karpenter, upgrades and cost tuning.
• Operate data services: Aurora PostgreSQL, MSK, S3 Object Lock, backups.
• Own the delivery pipeline: GitHub Actions, OpenTofu, Argo CD, Kyverno.
• Lead runbooks, on-call duties and post-incident reviews.
• Hand platform to State with documentation and portability checks.
