Job summary

King County in Seattle, WA seeks a Supervising Engineer (Engineer IV) to lead a multidisciplinary team within the River and Floodplain Management Section of WLRD. This full-time role focuses on flood risk reduction, habitat restoration, and design of capital river projects along major King County rivers.

You will supervise six engineers, guide design and construction, and drive innovative, equitable outcomes.

Qualifications

• BS in civil/environmental/water resources or related field.
• 10+ years with open channel hydraulics, river projects, or floodplain management.
• Experience leading design teams on large public works projects.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Washington or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering supervision and technical oversight for river and floodplain capital projects.
• Lead Strike Team engineers; hire, manage performance, develop staff.
• Collaborate to plan delivery, set priorities, and maintain safety culture.
• Direct planning, design, and construction of river/floodplain projects and contract documents.
• Improve workflow processes for consistent, effective project delivery.
• Engage with diverse stakeholders including tribes, agencies, and communities.
• Contribute to annual capital improvement planning and budgeting with cost estimates.
