Job summary

Montana Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Planner to join the Statewide Planning team, collaborating with local governments, MPOs, and the public to align statewide goals with local needs while handling long-range plans and data analysis.

This role advances through a career ladder with opportunities, reports to the Statewide Planning Section Supervisor, and requires driving record checks and compliance with state vehicle policies.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher with required years of related work experience.
• For Planner 4–5, bachelor’s degree with related experience required.
• Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance and coordination to Montana communities on long-range transportation plans.
• Analyze transportation data to support investment decisions.
• Coordinate with local officials and stakeholders on planning processes.
• Prepare reports and recommendations for Legislature and agency leadership.
• Manage planning programs addressing transportation needs.
