Job summary

Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is seeking an Attorney to represent MDT in transportation law at trials and hearings in state and federal courts and before administrative forums. The attorney will provide general counsel advice to the Director, administrators and program managers and report to the Deputy Chief Legal Counsel.

This role is part of a career ladder with advancement opportunities and may include a hybrid remote work arrangement.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Montana and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Evidence, and Rules of Appellate Procedure.
• Knowledge of concepts, theories and principles related to transportation law including eminent domain, contract claims, employment law, environmental law, and administrative law.
• Ability to negotiate and mediate conflicts using professional communication.

Responsibilities

• Represent MDT in state and federal courts and before administrative forums.
• Provide general counsel advice to the Director, administrators and program managers.
• Advise MDT at trials and hearings; report to Deputy Chief Legal Counsel.
