Job summary

MDOT is seeking a motivated Transportation Planner to support statewide highway planning and programming. You will analyze and monitor the Highway Capital Program, support project development, and evaluate statewide mobility, safety, and system needs to ensure efficient use of transportation funds.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree with at least 30 semester credits in planning, environmental studies, and/or related fields.
  • Experience levels defined for Transportation Planner 9/10/P11 with increasing responsibility in planning, mapping, or assessment of transportation, land use, environmental, or community systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of region‑level planning studies by evaluating corridor condition, mobility, and safety needs.
  • Participate on subcommittees responsible for project selection and program guidance, ensuring federal‑aid funding requirements are followed.
  • Monitor and report on the state’s Highway Capital Outlay program with coordination with the Bureau of Development Office of Major Projects.

Education

Bachelor's degree with ≥30 credits in planning/environmental/environmental studies/engineering/economics/geography/geospatial information systems/logistics and/or supply chain management
