Job summary

Jefferson County’s Finance department is seeking a Payroll Specialist to maintain the County's time and leave software, update schedules, and support bi-weekly payroll processing. The role requires strong customer service, interpersonal skills, and experience with government payroll systems.

The position is full-time, hybrid with on-site and remote work during onboarding and as needed. A starting PTO bank exists, plus retirement matching and tuition reimbursement as part of benefits.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certificate.
• Experience: Three (3) years of work-related experience.
• Note an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Time and Leave Software System - This position is responsible for maintaining or being the mail backup for the County's time and leave software system.
• Payroll Duties - Lead payroll specialist for most pay cycle activities and coordinate with IT, payroll staff and payroll manager for processing bi-weekly payroll.
• Customer Service – Main contact for employees regarding payroll services and reporting.
• Time and Leave System Processes - Update holidays; stretch pay and shift changes maintenance; future software upgrades SME.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
