Job summary

King County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Payroll Supervisor to lead five payroll staff and Payroll Specialists. The role oversees bi-weekly payroll for over 1,100 employees, ensuring compliance with union contracts and state/federal laws.

The supervisor manages the full payroll cycle, safeguards sensitive financial data, and collaborates with management to deliver high-level service to all roles. Strong policy interpretation and project management are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of professional accounting and payroll operations experience.
• Five (5) years experience in labor contract administration and interpretation.
• Experience with payroll production processing and complex payroll research.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, supervision, direction, and training in payroll operations.
• Supervise payroll staff, manage workflow and deadlines.
• Act as SME on payroll topics and projects.
• Develop and revise payroll policies and procedures as needed.
• Research and analyze payroll data including overtime and retroactive payments.
• Lead special projects within the unit.
• Assist staff with complex payroll issues via policy interpretation.
• Coordinate with finance and labor relations on contracts and calendars.
