Job summary

Glosten in Providence, RI seeks a hands-on engineer with experience in heavy civil construction, dredging, or salvage to join our Marine Construction group. You will apply hydrostatics, stability and structural analyses on challenging projects and coordinate with clients and internal teams.

Requirements include a naval architecture degree (or related), PE licensure, and proficiency with AutoCAD, Rhino3D, GHS, and FEMAP. Some travel and in-person work at our Providence office are expected.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four years in maritime sector, consulting engineering, marine construction, or dredging.
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture preferred; other engineering degrees considered.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure; applicants eligible to take exam in first year may be considered.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Rhino3D, GHS, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with FEMAP or other finite element analysis software preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience designing to regulatory rules such as ABS Rules, CFR Title 46, and USACE EM385.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; TN visa eligibility considered.
  • Some travel and fieldwork; valid driver's license, TWIC, and/or passport may be required.
  • Ideally based in Seattle, Bellingham, or Providence; hybrid remote work after 90 days; fully remote arrangements may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Apply hydrostatics, stability, and structural analyses.
  • Understand and apply maritime regulatory guidance, field work, shipyard practices, and contract specifications.
  • Manage small to medium projects, including client communications, leading engineering teams, scope and budget, scheduling, and proposals.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Contribute to resolving issues outside naval architecture, including marine engineering, machine design, and drafting.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers.
