Job summary

Actalent is seeking an entry-level Distribution Design Engineer I in Portage, MI, offering hybrid work and a strong training program. You will design, plan, and analyze electric distribution systems to support safe, reliable power delivery for residential and commercial customers.

You will work under guidance, performing field engineering, design calculations, and CAD-based documentation while collaborating with internal teams and utility clients to meet project goals and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering or a related field.
• Associates degree with significant experience will be considered.
• Experience with electric utilities or utility consulting is preferred.
• Experience using CAD tools for engineering design (AutoCAD, MicroStation).
• Foundational knowledge of engineering principles related to power distribution.

Responsibilities

• Plan, engineer, and design electric distribution systems for residential and commercial customers.
• Determine need, size, location, and timing of power delivery infrastructure with constraints.
• Develop work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems.
• Perform field engineering to gather requirements and verify conditions.
• Conduct design calculations using established procedures and codes.
• Use CAD tools to create and update distribution drawings and documentation.
• Support post-construction reviews and ensure designs meet requirements.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to resolve design issues.
• Follow NESC and other applicable codes and procedures.
• Assist with distribution design tasks involving voltage, transformers, and equipment.
• Communicate clearly with peers and client representatives.
