Job summary

Actalent in Hastings, MI is seeking an entry-level Distribution Design Engineer I to plan, engineer, and design electric distribution systems for safe, reliable power delivery. You will work with CAD tools, perform field engineering, and collaborate with utilities and project teams.

This contract role offers training and growth within a large power delivery organization, with a mix of field inspections and remote design work and a 70/30 work-from-home split.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Environmental) preferred.
• Experience with CAD tools for engineering design (AutoCAD / MicroStation).
• Foundational knowledge of electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering principles as they relate to power distribution.

Responsibilities

• Plan, engineer, and design electric distribution systems for residential and commercial customers.
• Develop work packages for overhead and underground distribution.
• Perform field engineering to gather requirements and verify conditions.
• Use CAD tools to create and update distribution design drawings.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external utility clients.
• Follow codes and standards such as NESC where applicable.
