Job summary

South Carolina Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Assistant Attorney General in the PCR Section to perform professional legal work for the State and its subdivisions. The role involves handling applications, pleadings, court appearances, and appeals, with a hybrid telework option in South Carolina.

You will manage case rosters, subpoenas, witness transport, and calendars, while advising victim advocates and ensuring LawBase/Worldox records are up to date.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and SC Bar admission.
• Recent law graduates eligible for admission to SC Bar.

Responsibilities

• Review applications, calendar returns, and prepare pleadings and responses.
• Represent the State at court hearings in assigned circuits and elsewhere.
• Prepare all proposed orders requested by the presiding judge.
• Represent the State on post-conviction relief appeals up to the Supreme Court/CA. File/serve appeals when needed.
• Prepare case rosters and issue to parties; arrange witness subpoenas and transportation for hearings.
• Review incoming mail; note due dates on attorney calendars; initials on documents.
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor or division director.
• Advise victim advocates of case developments/status.
• Update LawBase and Worldox promptly to reflect actions and documents.
• Maintain accurate calendar of all due dates.
• Respond to calls daily; respond to requests from Solicitors/attorneys/law enforcement.
• Maintain organized, shake-proof files and promptly close cases.
