Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking an Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Appeals Section. The role involves representing the State in criminal appeals across state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court as needed, with duties spanning research, briefing, and oral advocacy.

Qualifications

• Must be a member in good standing with the South Carolina Bar.
• Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements prior to start date.
• Position may require overnight travel.
• Position may be required to travel and transport files.
• Excellent written skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Will operate Westlaw.
• Must be able to transport files to court.

Responsibilities

• Represent the State of South Carolina in criminal appeals before appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court as needed.
• Perform research, read transcripts, and prepare briefs and related pleadings.
• Argue motions and case matters in court as necessary.
• Provide timely responses to inquiries from solicitors and law enforcement.
• Maintain calendars, deadlines, and case files for all assigned matters.
• Update LawBase with actions and case developments.
