Job summary

The State of South Carolina seeks an Assistant Attorney General in the PCR Section to perform professional legal work for the state and its subdivisions under limited supervision. The role includes preparing pleadings, representing the State in hearings, and drafting orders as required.

This position offers a hybrid telework schedule in South Carolina, a comprehensive benefits package, and opportunities for advancement within the Attorney General's Office.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
• Active South Carolina Bar membership in good standing.
• Ability to handle complex post-conviction relief matters.
• Willingness to travel overnight.

Responsibilities

• Review applications, calendar returns, and draft pleadings and responses.
• Represent the State at court hearings in assigned circuits.
• Prepare proposed orders requested by the judge.
• Represent the State on appeals of post-conviction relief cases and file briefs.
• Maintain calendars, issue rosters, subpoenas, and coordinate witness transportation.
• Update LawBase and Worldox promptly for all cases under responsibility.
• Respond to inquiries from Solicitors and law enforcement regarding post-conviction relief matters.
