Job summary

PlanetArt is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations in partnership with the HR and Finance Teams. The ideal candidate will be organized, comfortable with payroll data, and have at least two years of experience, strong Excel skills, and the ability to handle wages, deductions, garnishments, and contractor payments accurately.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of payroll, accounting, or related administrative experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, HR, or a related field preferred.
• Exposure to payroll processing and payroll systems preferred.
• Exposure to multi-state payroll preferred; California payroll experience a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in Paychex Flex a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll cycles: Calculate wages, bonuses, overtime, deductions, and verify timecards for timely and accurate distribution.
• Process 1099 payments, including AP voucher entry and payment reconciliation for independent contractors.
• Administer garnishments including calculations, processing, and responses to inquiries.
• Maintain payroll records by updating employee information, benefits, and new hire profiles.
• Review, verify, and process employee business expense reimbursements.
• Prepare payroll journal entries and support general ledger posting.
• Prepare routine and ad-hoc payroll reports for management.
• Support payroll compliance by processing payroll in accordance with company guidelines and applicable regulations.
• Perform routine payroll audits, identify discrepancies, and correct or elevate issues as needed.
• Maintain digital payroll files in accordance with company and department data-retention policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
