Job summary

Merchant & Gould PC, a leader in intellectual property law, seeks a patent prosecution legal assistant with five+ years of U.S. patent prosecution experience. The role supports attorneys, manages docketing, files procedures, and coordinates communications with clients and foreign associates.

A minimum three days in the office weekly is required. The ideal candidate is highly organized, deadline-driven, detail-oriented, and proficient with USPTO rules and electronic filing.

Qualifications

• BA degree and/or paralegal certificate or 5+ years in US patent prosecution.
• Familiarity with USPTO rules and electronic filing processes.
• Experience with docketing and client communications.

Responsibilities

• Prosecuting patent applications in the US and foreign countries.
• Open, maintain, and update patent files and docketing logs.
• Prepare filings including amendments, IDS, responses, and payments.
• Coordinate communications between attorneys, clients, and foreign associates.
• Support attorneys with administrative tasks and projects as assigned.
