Job summary

Merchant & Gould, a leading intellectual property law firm, seeks a patent prosecution legal assistant with 5+ years of U.S. patent prosecution experience. The role requires knowledge of PTO procedures and strong organizational and communication skills.

The position offers a hybrid work arrangement and a salary range of $75,000–$95,000 based on experience. The candidate will manage client communications, docketing, and filing processes in the United States and internationally, supporting

Qualifications

• BA degree and/or paralegal certificate or minimum of 5 years experience in U.S. patent prosecution.
• Familiarity with electronic case management systems and USPTO rules and requirements (IPFolio, Memotech, etc.).
• Familiarity with the prosecution of U.S. Trademark applications is a plus.
• Strong computer skills and ability to use and maintain a computer database; MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and maintains patent files and prepares filing documents for patent applications and related filings.
• Reviews incoming correspondence from USPTO and foreign associates for docketing.
• Maintains clients’ portfolios and proactive communication between attorney and client.
• Keeps docketing log updated and communicates with attorneys, clients, and foreign associates.
• Performs other administrative tasks and projects as assigned.
