Job summary

Merchant & Gould LLP is seeking a patent prosecution legal assistant with 5+ years of U.S. patent prosecution experience to support attorneys in filing and docketing across the U.S. and foreign jurisdictions.

The role requires excellent organization, accuracy, and communication skills, with a minimum three days in the office per week in a hybrid environment. Proficiency in case management systems and MS Office is preferred, along with reliability and deadline-driven work ethics.

Qualifications

• BA degree and/or paralegal certificate or minimum of 5 years experience in U.S. patent prosecution.
• Familiarity with electronic case management systems and USPTO rules; IPFolio, Memotech, etc. is a plus.
• Familiarity with the prosecution of U.S. Trademark applications a plus.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines; strong computer skills and MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and maintains patent files and prepares filing documents (applications, amendments, IDS, responses, assignments, payments, etc.).
• Reviews incoming correspondence from USPTO and foreign associates for docketing.
• Maintain clients’ portfolios and facilitate attorney-client communication.
• Maintains and updates docketing log spreadsheet.
• Ongoing verbal and written communication with attorneys, clients and foreign associates.
• Other administrative tasks and projects as assigned.
