Job summary

CLA is seeking a seasoned Controller with nonprofit industry experience to join our CAAS practice in Minneapolis, MN. You will lead internal controls, financial planning, budgets, and GAAP reporting while partnering with client teams to deliver tailored accounting and advisory services.

This role requires a bachelor’s degree, about 7 years of nonprofit accounting experience, and preferably a CPA. Expect a hybrid schedule with some client site work, strong interaction with boards and investors,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; CPA preferred but not required.
• 7 years of nonprofit accounting or back-office experience; public accounting preferred.
• Experience with accounting software; QuickBooks preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Develop internal control policies and procedures for budgets, cash, and accounting.
• Direct financial planning, budgeting, procurements, and investments for all or part of an org.
• Prepare financial statements, activity reports, forecasts, budgets, and regulatory reports.
• Evaluate fund procurement needs and invest surpluses; provide recommendations.
• Monitor KPIs and financial ratios.
• Oversee accounting staff performance and implement actions.
• Advise management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
• Communicate with boards, bankers, investors, and stakeholders; prep board materials.
