Job summary

Food Lifeline is seeking a Controller to oversee accounting operations, close processes, audits, and grant reporting. This role partners with the CFO to ensure accurate financial information and compliance with nonprofit standards.

The position requires extensive nonprofit accounting experience, strong internal controls, and leadership of accounting staff. The role is hybrid, with a full-time schedule and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Eight or more years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience.
• Experience with federal grants accounting and Uniform Guidance, Single Audit requirements.
• Experience leading annual financial audits and preparing audit schedules and financial statements.
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, donor restrictions, internal controls, and U.S. GAAP.
• CPA license preferred
• Advanced proficiency with Excel and experience using accounting/ERP systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly and annual close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reports.
• Lead the annual financial statement audit and Single Audit, including plan and respond to auditor requests.
• Oversee payroll processing, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance activities.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable operations, payments, and reconciliations.
• Oversee grants accounting, expenditure tracking, invoicing, and reporting.
• Supervise accounting staff and develop their capabilities.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit GAAP, donor restrictions, and grants terms.
