Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) invites applications for New Teacher Mentors in the Schaberg New Teacher Support Program. Mentors provide structured, research-informed mentoring to early career teachers, with virtual and in-person sessions and classroom observations.

The role offers a hybrid schedule, 10–12 hours per week, and collaboration with schools and district leaders to promote teacher well‑being and retention.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree is required.
• Virginia Professional or Postgraduate Teaching License is required.
• Three years of successful classroom teaching experience is required.
• Experience mentoring or coaching novice teachers is required.
• Experience supporting culturally diverse school communities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain regular contact with assigned mentees (min twice monthly for 1st year).
• Conduct classroom observations with NTSP tools and feedback.
• Attend mentor meetings and professional learning sessions.
• Document mentoring activity in NTSP reporting system.
• Represent NTSP professionally in schools and community.
