Job summary

Widmyer Elementary School in Berkeley Springs, WV seeks a Mentor Teacher to support new staff on an as/if needed basis. Candidates must complete WVDE mentor training and have strong recommendations from their principal along with a history of effective teaching.

The role includes observing the new teacher weekly, participating in joint planning, and joining regular professional meetings to foster student achievement and collaborative growth within the building.

Qualifications

• WVDE Mentor Training required
• Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience
• Recommendation from principal with favorable evaluations
• Positive and supportive attitude toward school community
• Innovative and willing to try new instructional techniques
• Agrees to schedule joint planning with beginning teacher and participate in weekly observations

Responsibilities

• Observe the beginning teacher one hour per week during the first half of the school year and one hour every two weeks during the second half
• Attend weekly meetings with the beginning teacher to discuss performance
• Participate in monthly meetings of the professional support team (principal, county staff development council member, mentor teacher)
• Schedule joint planning periods with the beginning teacher
