Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) seeks a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the Initiation Systems Group, focusing on hardware design, testing, and system integration for national security applications.

You will engage with multidisciplinary teams across the Laboratory and partner agencies, deriving requirements, supporting design reviews, and assisting with fabrication and testing while adapting to a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Sufficient verbal and written communication to collaborate in a team and present technical information.
• Desire to work on National Security projects related to nuclear weapons and flexibility to work in different technical areas.
• Proficiency in engineering hardware design, systems engineering, manufacturing techniques, or testing processes.

Responsibilities

• Derive engineering requirements, develop conceptual designs, and assess mechanical systems and diagnostics.
• Assist and support detail design, fabrication of components, and unit assembly.
• Prepare safety and engineering documentation and participate in design reviews.
