Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory seeks a Test and Instrumentation Engineer Academic Graduate Appointee to conduct experiments in instrumentation and process development for advanced manufacturing. The role sits in the Materials Engineering Division and requires DOE Q-level citizenship clearance.

You will work under staff engineers to build, troubleshoot, and validate multicomponent systems, documenting schematics and procedures while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Experience in test engineering, instrumentation, or controls demonstrated via coursework or work experience.
• Experience with industrial control systems and data-acquisition platforms.
• Familiarity with communication protocols and networked instrumentation.
• Strong verbal and written communication to collaborate in a team and document analyses.

Responsibilities

• Support experimental system buildout, instrumentation, and integration for multicomponent process-control systems.
• Configure and troubleshoot hardware, sensors, data-acquisition systems, and interfaces.
• Monitor and control process parameters to support research objectives.
• Create technical documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, and operating procedures.
• Conduct validation testing and analyze data to support design improvements.
• Implement hardware modifications to improve performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to achieve research goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
