Job summary

IAT Insurance Group is seeking a Claims Counsel in its Management Liability Claims Unit with national scope. The role handles EPL, D&O, Fiduciary and Crime claims for private and nonprofit clients, requiring strong analysis, negotiation, and leadership of defense counsel.

The position supports a hybrid work arrangement (office Mon-Wed, remote Thu-Fri) and may be fully remote for ideal candidates, with travel about one day per month.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate required.
• Licensed to practice law in the jurisdiction of work.
• 3–7 years of management liability claim experience (EPL, D&O, Fiduciary).
• Excellent coverage analysis skills and ability to draft coverage positions.
• Experience handling litigated files and directing defense counsel a plus.
• Excellent negotiation skills.
• Willing to travel, about 1 day per month.
• Claims licensure as required by state(s).
• CPCU and other insurance studies are beneficial.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Able to organize, multi-task and prioritize work.
• Authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not required now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Handle Management Liability Claims (EPL, D&O, Fiduciary and Crime) for Private and Non-Profit clients.
• Within authority, analyze, investigate, negotiate and resolve claims.
• Direct and manage defense counsel including budgets.
• Develop litigation strategy and attend mediations, settlements and trials.
• Verify coverage and adhere to claim guidelines.
• Prepare reports including Large Loss Reports for management.
• Maintain 24-hour contact with stakeholders throughout the claim life.
• Identify recovery/contribution/SIU opportunities.
• Set accurate loss/expense reserves in line with guidelines.
• Draft coverage letters and support underwriting/marketing meetings.
• Maintain resident/nonresident adjuster licenses as required.
• Perform other duties as needed.
