Job summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is seeking an entry-level Accountant to perform a wide range of accounting tasks under general supervision. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing general ledger accounts, journal entries, and supporting accounts payable/receivable, with a focus on accuracy and GAAP compliance.

The role supports month-end close, variance analysis, and financial statement preparation for the company and its subsidiaries, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.

Qualifications

• Understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Compute, analyze, and record financial transactions in the general ledger.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Develop and maintain spreadsheets to support general ledger balances and reporting.
• Review monthly financial statements for GAAP compliance and government reporting standards.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes and variance analysis.
• Investigate discrepancies and prepare documentation for audits.
• Maintain organized financial records and support process improvements.
