Job summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is seeking a detail-oriented accountant to perform a wide range of general ledger tasks, journal entries, and reconciliations. The role supports GAAP compliance and prepares financial statements for subsidiaries, contributing to timely month-end close and process improvements.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting/Economics and less than 1 year of related experience.

Qualifications

• GAAP, managerial accounting, and financial reporting standards.
• Costing, line of business, and governmental accounting knowledge for certain aspects.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording financial transactions.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, and work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Compute, analyze, and record financial transactions in the general ledger.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Develop, maintain, and review spreadsheets and workbooks to support general ledger balances and financial reporting.
• Review and analyze monthly financial statements in compliance with GAAP and governmental reporting standards.
• Assist with accounting analysis on revenues, expenses, and other key financial metrics to identify trends and resolve discrepancies.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including recording journal entries and variance analysis.
• Investigate financial discrepancies and provide documentation for audits.
• Maintain organized financial records and ensure policy compliance; contribute to process improvements.
• Stay informed of changes in accounting regulations and best practices.
