Job summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is seeking a Sr Accountant to lead the month-end close, analyze complex financial data, and prepare GAAP-compliant reports for internal and external audiences. The role provides technical accounting guidance and drives process improvements across the finance function.

The candidate will review journal entries, manage reconciliations, and participate in audits, while partnering with internal teams and BCBS plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree required; 5+ years of related experience, or 7+ years without degree.
• Familiarity with insurance accounting concepts (premium, loss reserves, claims, reinsurance).
• CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review journal entries and reconciliations; assist monthly close and reporting.
• GAAP/SAP-based accounting and reporting; support audit activities.
• Lead process improvements and internal controls; mentor staff; support cross‑functional projects.
