Job summary

NYSTRS is seeking an IT Security and Service Desk Intern to gain hands-on experience in cybersecurity, IT operations, and end-user support within a hybrid work environment at our Albany, NY location. You will assist users, document troubleshooting steps, monitor security alerts, and participate in vulnerability scans and incident documentation.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s or master’s degree program in cybersecurity, computer science, business information systems, computer information systems, or closely related major with at least one semester remaining to complete all degree requirements.
• Rising junior, rising senior, or graduate student by Summer 2027.
• Hybrid work environment and ability to work in Albany, NY location.

Responsibilities

• Assist users with basic hardware, software, and account-access issues.
• Set up and configure workstations, peripherals, and standard applications.
• Help document troubleshooting steps and update internal knowledge articles.
• Monitor security alerts dashboards and help identify basic suspicious activity.
• Assist with vulnerability scans, log reviews, and security tool updates.
• Help prepare simple security awareness materials or assist in incident documentation.
• Other IT projects as relevant.
