Job summary

Mars Snacking's Global Innovation Center in Chicago seeks an IP Counsel with a JD and USPTO registration to lead IP efforts for selected technologies, including drafting and prosecuting patents and advising on freedom-to-operate. Hybrid work schedule onsite three to four days per week.

You will partner with R&D, Marketing, Digital Technologies, Commercial, and the Law Department to identify, protect, and leverage IP that supports profitable growth and responsible innovation.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school with strong patent experience.
• Licensed to practice before the USPTO.
• Undergraduate degree in a science-related field.
• 5+ years IP-related legal experience; in-house a plus.
• Strong communication with clients and business leaders.

Responsibilities

• Lead IP activities for Mars Snacking technology platforms, drafting, filing, and prosecuting patents.
• Manage outside counsel for global patent portfolios.
• Provide IP strategy counselling to R&D, Marketing, and Business groups.
• Draft and negotiate IP-related contracts (MDAs, RTAs, NDAs).
• Develop IP training for innovation teams and business units.
