Job summary

Mars, Incorporated and its Affiliates is seeking an IP Counsel to lead intellectual property efforts for Mars Snacking technologies. The role collaborates with R&D, Marketing, Digital Technologies, and the Law Department to protect patents, know-how, trade secrets, and copyrights.

The position is based at Mars Snacking's Global Innovation Center on Goose Island in Chicago with a hybrid schedule, onsite three to four days per week. Requires a JD, USPTO bar, and 5+ years IP experience.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school with strong patent experience.
• Licensed to practice before the USPTO.
• Undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Food Science, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
• 5+ years of IP-related legal experience; in-house experience is a plus.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; able to interact with clients and leaders at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead IP-related activities for Mars Snacking technology platforms, including drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications; perform freedom-to-operate analyses.
• Manage outside counsel to coordinate prosecution of global patent portfolios.
• Provide competitive intelligence and IP strategy counselling to assigned R&D, Marketing, and Business groups.
