Cedar Cares, Inc in Chicago, IL seeks a Director, Assistant General Counsel – Intellectual Property to lead IP strategy, supervise patent and trademark work before the USPTO, and advise senior management on IP matters.

You will manage external counsel, assess registrability, and develop IP policies while leveraging AI tools to improve efficiency. This role resides in a fast-evolving fintech/software environment with hybrid work options.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to articulate complex IP concepts to diverse audiences.
• Strong project-management, organization, and prioritization abilities; handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. IP laws (patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets) and familiarity with international IP.

Responsibilities

• Manage IP work within the Legal Division, including preparing and prosecuting patent and trademark filings before the USPTO.
• Assess registrability and freedom-to-operate; manage external counsel on IP matters.
• Review IP contract provisions, conduct IP due diligence, and develop IP-related policies and processes.
• Provide IP counsel to senior management and educate stakeholders about IP matters.
• Stay current on IP developments; advise on IP issues related to fintech, software, AI/ML, data analytics, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and digital platforms.
• Assist with management of outside counsel and portfolio management; support regulatory reporting and compliance.
