Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago is seeking an Infrastructure & Cloud Systems Engineer to own the reliability, performance, and security of a hybrid data-center and Azure cloud. You’ll manage VMware, HPE hardware, and cloud services while driving automation and a disciplined engineering approach.

This role focuses on on-prem/Vmware stacks, Azure infrastructure, and IaC with Terraform, ARM/Bicep, and pipelines. The position offers a hybrid schedule with 3 days in downtown Chicago and 2 days remote,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of hands-on infrastructure engineering, systems administration, or cloud engineering in enterprise environments.
• Deep expertise in VMware vSphere/vCenter — cluster admin, resource management, DRS/HA, vSAN.

Responsibilities

• Administer and optimize on-premises server environments and storage across data centers.
• Manage VMware vSphere/vCenter with proper configuration, provisioning, and license optimization.
• Design, deploy, and maintain Azure infrastructure, RBAC, and identity governance.
• Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, ARM/Bicep, or similar.
• Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Coordinate with hardware vendors for lifecycle management and proactive maintenance.
