Job summary

GMHC seeks a Staff Attorney (Legal Immigration) to lead direct immigration legal services for low-income clients affected by HIV. The role includes advocacy, application support, and representation before USCIS, EOIR, and the BIA in complex matters.

The position emphasizes trauma-informed, culturally competent support, cross-department collaboration, and adherence to funder and audit requirements to advance access to justice for GMHC’s client population.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of immigration law experience with a focus on vulnerable populations.
• Fluency in English and Spanish to support GMHC’s client population.
• Strong knowledge of humanitarian and family-based immigration petitions.
• Ability to manage a dynamic caseload independently while meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments and reassess evolving legal needs.
• Provide direct immigration services including asylum, naturalization, TPS, and related filings.
• Deliver Know Your Rights and pro se assistance as needed.
• Maintain documentation and ensure audit readiness and funder compliance.
• Collaborate with health and social service providers and supervise staff as required.
