Job summary

Gay Men’s Health Crisis seeks a Staff Attorney (Legal Immigration) to lead direct immigration representation for low-income clients affected by HIV in New York. You will provide full-services before USCIS, EOIR, and BIA, while coordinating education, outreach, and collaboration across departments.

The role emphasizes trauma‑informed, culturally competent advocacy, client autonomy, and robust documentation for funder and audits. NY bar required; NY-based hybrid work model offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years immigration law experience with vulnerable populations.
• Strong knowledge of humanitarian and family-based petitions.
• Excellent oral and written communication with clients and stakeholders.
• Ability to manage a dynamic caseload independently with deadlines.
• Demonstrated cultural competency with LGBTQ+, low-income, immigrant communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct immigration legal services, including asylum, TPS, naturalization, and waivers.
• Conduct intake assessments and develop case strategy with referrals for care.
• Educate clients through Know Your Rights and community outreach.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare monthly/adhoc program reports.
• Supervise paralegals and interns; consult with peers on case matters.
