Job summary

Baker Botts is seeking a Human Resources Manager to support the firm's US offices, especially in the Bay Area, with travel to Bay Area offices as needed. This full-time, exempt role is based in Washington, DC, with a hybrid work arrangement.

The role requires at least 5 years of HR experience, strong knowledge of California HR laws, and proficiency with Workday. You will lead HR administration, on-boarding, and staff relations while partnering with the HR Director and immigration counsel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher with 5+ years of HR experience in a large organization.
• Strong knowledge of California HR laws and regulations.
• Experience with Workday HRIS.
• Ability to manage employee data in an automated HRIS.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to supervise and train staff.

Responsibilities

• Identify and elevate HR-related issues to appropriate internal stakeholders.
• Independently manage basic employee relations and performance matters.
• Own local staff onboarding, including collecting new hire paperwork and reviewing First Day information.
• Partner with HR Director and immigration counsel to track lawyers on work visas.
• Verify new hire I-9 documentation and monitor visa expiry dates.
• Maintain employee personnel files in compliance with California law.
• Partner with local Office Administrator and Payroll on termination processing.
• Assist with firmwide HR policies and timecard approvals.
• Screen staff new hires in partnership with Staff Recruiter and Office Administrator.
• Manage members of the HR team.
• Support Firmwide HR initiatives as needed.
