Job summary

The California ISO is seeking a Reliability and Market Operations Engineer to provide engineering support to Reliability Coordination, Real-Time Grid Operations and Market Operations. You will establish operating limits, document procedures, and model market impacts of transmission constraints to ensure safe and reliable operation.

This is a 24x7 rotating shift role with potential for remote/work-from-home arrangements during part of the cycle.

Qualifications

• Two or more years related experience.
• NERC Reliability Authority (or System Operator) Certification required or must be able to obtain within six months of employment.
• Experience conducting simulation and analytical studies of electric power systems including harmonic, transient stability and load flow analysis.

Responsibilities

• Providing on shift engineering support in 24X7 control room environment.
• Attend operations planning meetings to communicate current day plan and the next day plan.
• Develop operating requirements and instructions in outage plans and operating procedures to adhere to NERC standards and system limitations.
• Model transmission constraints in the ISO market to ensure efficient market operations and reliable grid operations.
• Provide engineering support on model validation and abnormal market price investigations.
• Assist ISO divisions and departments with feedback relating to the ISO controlled grid and control area.
• Represent ISO Operations Engineering in WECC and other industry meetings as assigned.
• Assist in developing and documenting automated programs/tools for monitoring operational performance.
