California ISO seeks a Sr Operations Engineer to analyze, coordinate, and approve outages for the ISO grid, establish daily limits, and model market impacts of transmission constraints. The role supports reliable operation of the transmission system and contributes to ISO policies and methodologies under NERC/WECC standards.

The position requires a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Power Engineering emphasis preferred.
• Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering is an asset.
• Experience conducting simulation and analytical studies of electric power systems including power flow and contingency analysis using programs such as PSS/E, GE PSLF, Powerworld Simulator and DSATools required.
• Electric utility industry experience in Operations, Planning, Design, Maintenance, Protection, and Energy Management Systems preferred.

Responsabilités

• Prepares and conducts operating and clearance studies, including power flow and contingency analysis, to maintain the reliable operation of the grid.
• Represents ISO operations engineering interests in WECC committees, work groups, and other forums as assigned.
• Analyzes complex operational engineering issues and recommends modifications to operating procedures.
• Develops, implements and documents automated programs for monitoring the system.
• Provides training and technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
• Acts as subject matter expert for real-time systems concerns and daily operations.
