Job summary

Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) in Philadelphia or Washington, D.C. is seeking an experienced litigator to lead strategic First Amendment cases. The attorney will litigate, supervise junior staff, and collaborate with FIRE’s communications team to publicize outcomes.

The role requires traveling about 20% and a hybrid work schedule with some in-office days. Candidates must have at least six years of civil-litigation experience, be a graduate of an ABA-accredited law school,

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of civil-litigation experience.
• Ability to articulate FIRE’s mission to diverse audiences.
• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
• Expertise in discovery rules and Civil Procedure.
• ABA-accredited law school graduate and bar admission in the base jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

• Identify matters for potential litigation.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and supporting documents.
• Direct discovery strategy, including drafting and reviewing discovery requests and responses.
• Promote FIRE’s cases with media and outreach; assist in amicus briefs.
• Supervise staff attorneys, litigation fellows, and law clerks.
