Job summary

FIRE is seeking an attorney based in Philadelphia, PA, or Washington, D.C., with a hybrid in-office/remote schedule. The role focuses on litigating strategic First Amendment cases, mentoring staff, and engaging with media and public speaking.

The candidate should have at least 6 years of civil-litigation experience, be a member of the bar, and be able to articulate FIRE's mission to diverse audiences. Approximately 20% travel is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of civil-litigation experience.
• Must be able to articulate FIRE's mission to diverse audiences.
• Member of the bar in the jurisdiction where based.

Responsibilities

• Identify matters for potential litigation.
• Draft memoranda and demand letters for pre-litigation matters.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and supporting documents.
• Direct discovery strategy and draft responses.
• Take and defend depositions; attend hearings and trials.
• Collaborate with Communications to promote FIRE's cases.
