Job summary

Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression in Philadelphia, PA, seeks an Attorney to litigate strategic First Amendment cases and advocate in media and public speaking engagements. The role includes collaboration with FIRE staff and travel as needed.

The attorney will work in a hybrid schedule in Philadelphia or Washington, D.C., requiring an ABA-accredited law degree and bar admission, plus a minimum of six years of civil-litigation experience and strong advocacy, research, and editing

Qualifications

• Must graduate from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Bar admission in the jurisdiction where based.
• Minimum 6 years of civil-litigation experience.
• Ability to articulate FIRE’s mission with passion.

Responsibilities

• Litigate strategic First Amendment cases and develop case strategies.
• Direct discovery strategy, including drafting and reviewing requests.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and supporting documents.
• Work with Communications to promote FIRE’s cases.
• Supervise and mentor staff attorneys and clerks.
• Travel about 20% and nationwide travel is required.
• Attend hearings, trials, and other proceedings.
• Engage in outreach, writing for popular audiences, and media appearances.
