Job summary

City of Seattle seeks a regular, full-time Fire Protection Engineer in the Fire Prevention Division to ensure commercial building construction meets Seattle Fire Code and NFPA standards. You will review plans, perform technical reviews, and provide code guidance to SFD, designers, and contractors in a fast-paced team environment.

Hybrid work options may include three office days and up to two remote days per week, with a strong emphasis on public service, safety, and collaboration across city

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering or closely related field with significant coursework.
• Minimum of three years of experience in building construction and fire protection.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Experience with plan reviews and code consultation is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Review architectural plans for compliance with Seattle Fire Code and Building Code requirements.
• Perform technical reviews of fire protection systems and calculations as needed.
• Use Accela and BlueBeam to locate electronic plan submittals and annotate corrections.
• Provide technical and code assistance to the Seattle Fire Department, public, and design/construction professionals.
• Represent the Fire Marshal at meetings with architects, contractors, and industry groups.
• Maintain high accuracy and timely delivery of work products and deliverables.
