Tilting Futures is seeking a hands-on Finance & Operations Manager to run our finances, people and tech operations. You will empower a lean team and build bench strength across departments so staff can focus on delivering services to young people.

Reporting to the COO, you will lead month-end close, manage budgeting, oversee HR processes and vendor relationships, and ensure data security and compliant operations. This hybrid Oakland-based role blends hands-on execution with strategic planning.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in operations, finance or business operations, ideally at a nonprofit.
• Working knowledge of nonprofit finance and accounting, including month-end close, budgeting and audit preparation.
• Experience managing outside vendors, such as accountants, benefits providers or IT partners, including pushing back when the work is not right.
• Strong project management skills, with experience running recurring processes that involve several teams.
• Comfort with technology: you learn new tools quickly and can talk through options with vendors and IT partners.
• Advanced spreadsheet skills (formulas, pivot tables) and experience with accounting and payment tools such as QuickBooks Online and Bill.com.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining budgets and benefits in plain terms.

Responsibilities

• Close month-end and deliver timely financial reports.
• Coordinate with outside accountants and fractional CFO; bring routine work in-house to reduce costs.
• Manage the annual budgeting process, forecast updates and spending controls.
• Oversee people operations including benefits administration, onboarding/offboarding and HR compliance.
• Lead hiring processes with managers and timelines.
• Collaborate with a fractional executive assistant on day-to-day HR and admin tasks.
• Administer organization-wide tools and manage the tech budget and renewals.
• Document SOPs and build subject-matter expertise within teams.
