Pacific Gas and Electric Company is seeking an entry-level Associate Protection Engineer to support protection studies for transmission voltages up to 230 kV under supervision. The position prioritizes learning protection concepts, applying engineering principles, and collaborating with engineering and operations teams across PG&E service territory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline; or graduating with a BSEE or equivalent from US or outside.
• EIT Certificate and two years of engineering experience are preferred.
• Able to apply basic engineering principles and theory.
• Basic understanding of symmetrical component theory and fault calculations.
• Basic knowledge of logic gate theory and control circuitry.
• Able to read Operating, Single line, SLM&R, and Schematic diagrams.
• Ability to quickly learn protection concepts and their application.

Responsibilities

• Provide protection engineering support for projects and studies for transmission voltages 230 kV and below.
• Issue protection requirements and describe operations for non-standard RAS schemes.
• Conduct short circuit studies and calculate short circuit impedance.
• Determine and issue relay and automatics settings.
• Support relay system installations and perform test programs and end-to-end checks.
• Conduct area coordination studies and participate in project walks and meetings.
• Review and approve construction drawings and update databases and records.
• Design and set localized RAS schemes per operation requirements.
• Identify existing protection deficiencies and provide maintenance support.
